Pterocactus tuberosus

A fascinating cactus from Northern Argentina (Río Negro to Salta and Patagonia) with a unique reproductive mechanism — in autumn and winter it sheds its stem segments, which spread by wind to root and form new plants. Forms a tuberous root with age.
