Tephrocactus weberi ( Brown Spine form) of Pine Cone Cactus - Quite Rare. Brown Spine form.

It is a native to Argentina. It grows on rocky slopes in Salta, Catamarca, Tucumán, La Rioja, and San Juan provinces.

Tephrocactus weberi , sold to me as Brown Spine Form, spines are golden at present, it can become a small shrubby cactus, segment stems covered with conspicuous rhomboid, spirally arranged tubercles. It as small aeroles, with age scarlet/ crimson spines. Grows to about 20cm tall, and branches from the base, and then segments above.

Each areole has 3 to 10 needle like spines,and a few glochids. Flowers range from yellow and orange-yellow to pinkish red.

The fruits are spiny, nearly spherical, and grow about 1cm in diameter.

These are plants grown from my stock plant, which I bought several years ago, name as provided to me.

Note: segments are prone to 'dropping off' no matter how careful the packing is. Allow to callous over and then pot up if that occurs.
